1964 Obituary: George W. Reiss


George W. Reiss, Prairie du Long, Dies at Age of 91


George W. Reiss, 91-year-old retired farmer of Prairie du Long Township, died at 8:40 a.m. today at his home, four miles southwest of Smithton.  He had been seriously ill for three weeks.

Mr. Reiss was a former clerk for the Floraville School Board of Directors, serving for 16 years, and was one of the organizers of the Floraville Community Grange.

A son of the late Frank J. and Anna S. Reiss, nee Feder, he was born in Prairie du Long Township April 22, 1873.  He married Catherine Luetzelschwab at Millstadt April 16, 1911.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, William J. Reiss of Belleville, Franklin J. Reiss of Urbana, and Irwin H. Reiss of Sullivan, Ind.; a sister Mrs. Kathryn Petry; and two brothers, William M. Reiss of Belleville and Louis P. Reiss of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Mr. Reiss was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Floraville, St. Clair County Farm Bureau, and Floraville Community Grange.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Church, Floraville on Saturday, hour to be announced later.  The Rev. Marion Harrison, pastor of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Smithton and the Foraville Church, will officiate.  Burial will be in Franklin Cemetery, Smithton.  Friends may call at the George Renner and Sons Funereal Home, Smithton, after 7:00 p.m. Thursday.
